Test for alcohol in gasoline: a portable solution to prevent adulteration

  • Chemistry, Utilities
cientista em laboratório de química

Speed:

The result is provided in just a few moments.

Portable

The device is small,  light and can be carried around easily.

Quality assurance:

The invention helps to reduce fuel consumption and prevent engine damage.

Reduces accidents:

Gasoline adulteration can cause accidents, as it can lead to engine failure. The test for alcohol in gasoline helps reduce the risk of accidents.

Easy to use:

The device is simple to handle and requires no training, so it can be used by anyone.

The problem-solution approach

Fuel adulteration is a serious problem in Brazil. The illegal addition of compounds, such as alcohol, to gasoline can cause damage to the engine, reduce the car’s performance and increase consumer spending on fuel. However, despite the fact that this problem occurs with a certain frequency, identifying adulteration at the time of filling up is difficult, exposing drivers to a series of risks.

What is it?

The invention is a portable device that allows you to check the approximate alcohol content in a sample of gasoline before filling up. The device is easy to use and can be used by anyone.

How it works

The device allows you to check the alcohol content of gasoline quickly and easily. It consists of a transparent tube with a float that reacts in the presence of alcohol. To use it, simply add a little gasoline to the tube and wait a few moments. If the float rises to the indicated range, the gasoline is within quality standards. If not, the gasoline has been adulterated.
