The measurement process is automated, which reduces testing time, increases accuracy and eliminates errors caused by human factors.
The system is economical and easy to operate, which reduces test costs.
The depth of trauma is estimated with high precision, based on physical data and using advanced 3D reconstruction algorithms. In addition, because of the way the data is obtained, it is possible to carry out statistical analysis and error calculation.
The system is safe and does not require the operator to be exposed to hazardous materials or violent impacts.
Ballistic vest tests are carried out to verify the effectiveness of this equipment in protecting against the impact of projectiles. One of the most important parameters to be assessed in these tests is the depth of trauma, which indicates how much the projectile has deformed the vest.
However, current methods for measuring the depth of trauma on surfaces deformed by projectile impact are slow, inaccurate and subjective. In addition, these tests can be harmful to the health of the operator, who is exposed to hazardous materials and/or violent impacts.
The invention presented consists of a method for estimating the depth of trauma in ballistic vest tests. It uses 3D reconstruction through image capture to obtain precise and objective data on the deformed surface (plasticine).
The system consists of a projection and image capture device, a plasticine box and 3D reconstruction software.
The calibrated device projects a pattern in the infrared range onto the deformed surface of the plasticine. A pair of cameras then captures images of the deformed surface of the plasticine and the 3D reconstruction software uses these images to reconstruct a point cloud of the deformed surface of the plasticine. The depth of the trauma is obtained by the analysis of the point cloud.
